Bought this for my grandson for Christmas. He is 3 and is the biggest Thomas fan. He plays with his trains all the time. There are not many additions to the TrackMaster to enhance the action. This came quickly and was sold at a great price. Good Buy.

My four year-old received this as a present from Santa this year and really loves it. He grasped the mechanics of picking up and moving the train holder and spinning. The little “tool” that lights up and makes sound is pretty cute (the watch type batteries should last a long time since it only works when you press on it). I will say it took my soon a little bit of practice to get the hang of releasing the train holder from the crane/claw you have to press down all the way..and..push down on the claw release which sometimes requires a little added pressure. This is a terrific toy for Thomas fans who collect the Track Master playsets… especially if they’ve seen Hero of the Rails.

My boys are 2 and 4 and love this addition to their train. It takes a little training to get the hang of the spin and fix, but in the end, it’s a new dimension of fun.

Both my children boy (3) & girl (5) loved this the moment they opened it, however only a few hours later the train quit working (not due to a dead battery) and the claw created screams of frustration. My husband and I both thought it was perhaps child-challenging, but with our own efforts it still continued to be deffective. If I had known this was going to be an issue I wouldn’t have chosen to buy this set. I did fortunatly buy the warrenty plan and will be returning this for a regular set of wooden tracks. End result is disapointed.

As other have noted, the claw doesn’t work very well. My 3 year olds (will be 4 next month), 6 year old and even my wife and myself have issues with it. It is not defective, just the way it “works”. My 3 year old son likes to play with this a lot and the girls also try to get a chance to use it. He has a number of other Thomas sets he can expand this with but hasn’t yet. He likes the ability to drive Thomas with the remote, make the train and music sounds and really doesn’t use the fix/spin much. It’s worth the $20 I paid for this here new and on sale. It’s only been 8 days since Xmas so we’ll have to see how much life this has.
