I have seen this at Toys-R-us for $99 and another time they had it for $66. But at any such price it is a good deal. There are lots of things here, it is easy for kids to put together, and lots of fun.

Do yourself a favor, just go to ToysRus online store and paid just 38 bucks shipped. Don’t get burn by this seller.

I bought for $69 at local ToyRUs Store and it’s amazing the amount of joy for my son (and me) in one box!

Two Christmases ago my son received this as a gift from his Grandpa (who paid $99 at Toys R Us). He was only about a year and a half old at the time but we set it up. Unfortunately at that age he really just wanted to destroy the “city” and run the trains on the floor so we boxed it back up to pull out once he was a little older.
We decided to pull this set back out now that he’s 3 and what a great decision it was! He’s a huge Thomas fan AND loves the GeoTrax train sets by Fisher Price so this set brought together the things he loves about each into one (very large) set. It’s all he wants to play with now.
The set is very durable. The train tracks aren’t easily pulled apart accidentally because of the sort of connection they use. The road pieces however do pull apart easily, probably my only complaint (as a child moves about the set to play they’ll no doubt bump the road like my son has and knock it apart a few times). Still, everything else about the set is so great it’s totally able to be overlooked.
Probably the best part of this set is the fact that you can use the Trackmaster trains on it. This is great because while the Tomy sets are a little more difficult to find, you can find trains for the Trackmaster sets at just about any store (Walmart, Target, etc.). It makes it a much more kid friendly toy because you can constantly add to it without having to search for pieces.
As for my son’s review… his favorite part has got to be the “quarry” and “Cranky”. These two parts are automatic as trains pass. The quarry allows the rock truck to automatically drop off it’s load and then, on the next pass, stop to pick it up as it is lifted up the escalator and then dropped down the shoot into the train. Cranky automatically goes into motion as a train stops in his yard. Another fun feature that my 3 year old just adores.
Bottom line, this is a fantastic set if you have the room for it. Add on a remote controlled train from the Trackmaster set and your child will be in Thomas Heaven!

I like this set for my daughter, but buyer beware– this is not compatible with either the wooden or the other plastic sets sold in the Thomas line. None of the other stores in our area sell anything compatible with this system. I also got a good deal on this set at Toys R Us at holiday time.
